When to Give
Once your puppy is completely weaned at about 7 or 8 weeks, and moves on to puppy food, your puppy would also be able to enjoy the occasional snack.
Balance
A balanced diet is critically important to your dog’s cell maintenance and growth and overall health. Barring any special needs, illness-related deficiencies, or instructions from your vet, your pet should be able to get all the nutrients he or she needs from their regular meals, commercial, home-cooked or otherwise.
What to Give
Always be aware of what goes into your snacks, and be aware of artificial preservatives, which aren’t even good for us, let alone our precious pooches. Large scale commercial treats have to rely on preservatives to keep them staying fresh. This is to extend their shelf-life and keep the perishable ingredients from turning bad. From the time they are produced, hit the store, bought and consumed, with large scale distribution, their treats need to last for a really long time. They turn to preservatives to help prolong the life of their treats. This can include Ethoxyquin, Propylene Glycol, BHT - Butylated Hydroxytoluene, known as BHT, and BHA - Butylated Hydroxyanisole. All of which are artificial and not good for your dog in the long run. How Much To Give
You can give your dog in between snacks to supplement their diet. Snacks, in general, should be given in moderation (especially commercial snacks) and represent 10% or less of the dog’s daily food intake. When using treats as motivation, such as during training exercises make your Kuro Snacks last longer - you can break or cut them into smaller pieces before giving them to your dog. Try to give your dog snacks at certain set timings, and specific portions. This helps train both your puppy and you on the right amount to provide your puppy.
